Hi, I was asked to make a 60th card for someone that I don’t know, not something I usually do. I decided to play it safe with a die cut number 60 and lots of flowers. The stitching on the numbers adds an extra level of detail to an otherwise standard card. It’s not 100% clear on the photograph but the sentiments are all in gold, either mirror card or hot foil.
To Make The Card
Start with a white 5″ x 7″ blank card and trim it slightly to 12.5cm x 17.5cm, this makes it much easier to cut the layers. Add a layer of purple card. Cut the two number backgrounds from the same purple card and cut the decorative parts of the numbers twice each from a lighter shade of purple. Glue the lighter parts of the numbers together, this helps to make them stronger, which makes the stitching easier. I used white embroidery thread as that is what I had available but I think it would work just as well with gold metallic thread. Stitch using only three strands of thread, working from the centre outwards around the circle. When the stitching is complete, glue the two parts of each number together.
Die cut a selection of flowers and foliage from bright red, yellow, orange and white card and arrange them around the two numbers. When you are happy with the layout glue the flower and leaf stems in place, then glue the numbers over them. Cut the ‘th’ suffix and the ‘Happy’ from gold mirror card. Cut each one twice and glue them together to give them more substance, then adhere to the card front above and just after the zero. Hot foil the word ‘Birthday’ with gold foil on the dark purple card, then trim into a rectangular strip. Adhere this sentiment below the two numbers, between the flowers. Finish off by adding a tiny adhesive crystal to the centre of each stitched circle and different sizes of crystals in and amongst the flowers.
I love the bold colour scheme of this card, and all the different textures. Apparently it was well received. Thank you for visiting, I hope you like the card too. If you want to make it yourself, all the products used are linked below.
