Hi, I used the Dancing Reindeer die set to make a card last year, and it was very well received, so I was looking forward to using it again this year. I had the idea to combine it with a rocker card design, so that when the card rocked the reindeer’s legs would swing. Unfortunately it doesn’t work quite as well as I had hoped, as the legs are catching slightly on the Christmas tree branches and the embossed snow. Anyway I still like the look of the card and the legs do swing if you tilt it by hand.
To Make The Card
Start by cutting a 13.5cm circle with small stripes edging from red card, and fold it in half. Cut two 12.5cm circles from white card, use a snowy hillside die to cut across one of the white circles. I wanted to create a snow on the ground effect for the white area, so I used a stamp which is intended to be ripples on water. First stamp the sentiment so that there is no snow in the way. Once the red ink is dry, stamp the ripples in watermark ink and then heat embossed with a snowy embossing powder. On the full circle, ink all over the top half with blue ink, then scatter on some white embossing sprinkles and heat until they melt. Don’t forget to heat from underneath otherwise they will blow away!
Die cut three Christmas trees from green glitter card, glue one to the back of the snowy hillside, towards the right hand side, then glue the hillside to the full circle, so you end up with the snowy sky at the top. Glue the other two Christmas trees to the left side of the card, leaving a space in the middle for the reindeer. Glue the circle to the red semi circle base. Cut all the parts of the reindeer and assemble it, except for the legs. Add a red adhesive pearl for his nose. Use a 3mm adhesive foam circle to the back of the reindeer so that the legs will hook over it, use the same adhesive circles on the head and candy cane, then adhere to the card front, between the Christmas trees.
Here’s a picture of the back of the reindeer, showing how the legs hang over the adhesive foam circle.
Here’s a very brief video of the legs in action.
Even though the legs don’t swing very much, I still like the card and think the reindeer is very cute. Thank you for visiting, I hope you like the card too, if you want to try it for yourself all the products used are linked below.
