Hi, if you are looking for ideas for a summery birthday card, then a beautiful flamingo with tropical foliage has to be a top pick. Pretty colours and a muted, inked background set it off perfectly.

Hand made birthday card with inked background and die cut flamingo.

To Make The Card

Start with a white A6 blank card and add a layer of pale yellow card, followed by a layer of turquoise card. Die cut a stitched oval 7.5cm x 11.5cm from watercolour card stock. Use a foam ink blending tool to ink the oval with light pink, pale yellow and light turquoise in bands from the top down. Glue the inked oval shape to the centre of the card front.

Cut the pieces to make up the flamingo, a mid pink for the main body, a dark pink for the wing, black for the beak and yellow for the legs. Assemble and glue together the flamingo pieces. The eye is cut as part of the main body, colour it black with a marker pen, then stick a small piece of double sided tape behind the eye hole and press the eye into place.

Cut five tropical leaves from dark turquoise card, two leaf stems from light turquoise and six small flowers from pink and yellow card. Arrange the stems, leaves and flowers down the left hand side of the oval shape and glue in position. Adhere the flamingo to the right side of the oval. slightly overlapping at the bottom and side.

Finally cut the sentiment from the sheet and ink the background with the same yellow ink as used on the oval. Adhere the sentiment strip above the flamingo, use glue at the left end and a 1mm adhesive foam pad at the right end to make it level.

I think this is a very pretty card with a lovely summery feel. The sentiment could be changed to suit all kinds of different occasions. Thank you for your visit, I hope you like it too. All the products used are linked below.
