Hi this card is made using three Art Deco die sets, which makes it really easy to recreate the style of that era. The Art Deco style was introduced in the “roaring twenties” a time famous for it’s opulence and excess, hence my choice of rich, shiny colours.
To Make The Card
Start with a piece of white card, (or watercolour card stock) bigger than 13cm x 15.5cm. This will allow you to trim off the edges so you don’t have to get the colour right the way to the edge. Sprinkle the Pixie Sparkles all over the card, then spritz with water. Keep adding Pixie Sparkles and water until you are happy with the coverage and colour. Either leave to dry or dry it with a heat gun. You may need to leave it weighted down for a while to flatten it out if the water has caused it to curl.
Once you have prepared the background the rest of the card is just die cutting and sticking.
The size of the card is dictated by the main fan design background die. This die cuts the design into the card, so in order to have a border around the edge you need to cut the card to size before die cutting it. Cut a piece of black card 13cm x 15.5cm, die cut it with the fan background die, positioned so that there is a narrow border all round. The label die is in two parts, one for the outside edge and one for the inner design. Cut this once from gold mirror card using both dies together. Cut it again from pale peach card using only the outer edge die. Glue the gold label onto the peach background. Die cut the Birthday Wishes sentiment from black card and glue it to the centre of the label.
To finish the card, take a 7″ x 7″ white blank card and trim it to 14cm x 16.5cm, cut a layer of gold mirror card slightly smaller and glue it to the card front. Once the Pixie Sparkles panel is dry and flat trim it to be very slightly smaller than the fan background so approximately 12.9cm x 15.4cm. Glue the fan background over the Pixie Sparkles panel and adhere to the card front. Finally adhere the label with thin foam pads so that it stands up slightly from the card front.
With the shiny gold and richly coloured background I didn’t feel any further embellishment was necessary. I think this is a very eye-catching and unusual card, that could be used for a male or female recipient. Thank you for visiting, I hope you like the card. All the products used are linked below.
