Hi, this is my last birthday card for 2023, I have made all the cards I need up to the end of the year and for one early January birthday, so that now I can concentrate on making Christmas cards. It’s a while since I used alcohol inks so I thought I would get them out again for a play.

To Make The Card

I started by making the alcohol ink panel, cut a piece of Yupo paper approx 5″ x 7″. This is bigger than you need but gives you room to trim off any areas that you are not happy with later. I wanted some bold colours with plenty of turquoise, and added in some splashes of coral to warm it up. The ink colours are listed below. The inks were dripped onto the Yupo paper along with blending solution and then moved around with an air blower to create the swirls and patterns. I also added some gold for richness. Once you are happy with your piece, set it aside to dry.

Take a 5″ x 7″ white blank card and trim it down to 16.5cm x 12.5cm, then add a layer of dark turquoise card. Cut three 4cm x 10cm panels from the inked piece and three gold panels 4.5cm x 10.5cm. Glue the inked panels to the gold panels and then adhere them to the card front, with narrow gaps between them and a wider border around the outside.

Stamp the sentiment in watermark ink on dark turquoise card, then heat emboss with gold powder. Mount the sentiment strip on gold card and adhere across the bottom part of the two right hand panels.

I really like the rich, opulent feel to this card, created by the combination of colours with gold. The patterns of the alcohol ink panels mean you don’t really need much else to finish the card off.
