Hi, it’s time to start thinking about cards for Father’s Day again, as it is only a few weeks away. This card uses quite an old stamp set from Woodware but which works well for both Father’s Day and mens birthdays. I wanted a simple two tone colour scheme, and chose blue to fit with the nautical theme.
To Make The Card
Start with a white 12.5cm square blank card, and cover the whole front with cream card. Alternatively make a 12.5cm square card base from cream card stock. Add a layer of blue card 12cm square and a layer of cream card 11cm square.
The map stamp has a solid border around the edge, this needs to be left off, because it needs to be stamped twice to get the right size. Stamp the map once, carefully wiping the ink off the border before stamping. Turn the stamp around and stamp again right next to the first stamp, again remembering to wipe ink off the border. The map is stamped with Stormy Sky Distress ink on cream card stock. Trim the map panel to 9.5cm square and mount onto blue card 10cm square. Adhere this to the centre of the card front.
Use the same ink to stamp the ship onto cream card, then trim it into a triangle 8.5cm on the shortest side and 8.5cm from the left side to the point. Adhere this to blue card, with a small margin all round. Adhere the ship triangle to the card front over the map panel.
Stamp the Happy Fathers Day sentiment in the same ink onto a strip of cream card. Again mount this onto blue card with a narrow border. Adhere the sentiment to the card front, overlapping the triangle. Use double sided tape at the left end and 1mm foam pads at the right end to level it up.
I really like the simplicity of the colour scheme, contrasted with the vintage style ship and map. Also, I like the way the triangle gives a sense of direction, and is reminiscent of flags and sails, to match the nautical theme. I hope you like it too, you could easily change the sentiment to make a birthday card as well. All the supplies used are linked below.
