Hi, I have seen and admired cards with the Bokeh effect many times but this is the first time I have tried it for myself. I am sure there are other ways to achieve this look, but I have described below the method that I used. Making a get well card is part of my series on cards for unplanned events.
To Make The Card
The longest job is to make the piece of card with the Bokeh style design. Take a piece of white card approx. 10.5cm x 14.5cm ink all over the background with coloured inks. I wanted a bright cheerful colour scheme for this card so chose bright pink, turquoise and yellow.
Make a template of circles from a piece of acetate. You could use card but it’s easier to see what you are doing with acetate. Die cut four sizes of circle from the acetate using the four smallest dies from the set. This creates a stencil to make the white circles with. Start with the largest circle, place the acetate over the coloured background and use an ink blending tool to add white ink. The idea is to ink the larger circles quite lightly, and build up the coverage as you ink the smaller ones. The circles should be arranged randomly, and can overlap each other as well as the edge of the card. Carry on adding circles until you are happy with the way it looks.
To assemble the card, start with a white A6 blank card. Cut a triangle of turquoise card 10.25cm x 14.5cm on the two shorter sides, and adhere it to the bottom left hand corner of the card. Cut a piece of the Bokeh background into a triangle with shorter sides of 9.75cm x 14cm and adhere it over the turquoise. Repeat the process to add layered triangles to the top right hand corner. Turquoise 4cm x 5.75cm and Bokeh background 3.5cm x 5.25cm. Stamp the sentiment in the white space between the two decorated corners. Add some matching enamel dots to finish it off.
I like this card and I am sure it’s bright colours would cheer up anyone who was feeling under the weather. The acetate stencil that I created can be wiped clean and used again. I hope you like the card, thank you for visiting. All the products used are linked below.
