Handmade Christmas Card with Distressed Snowflake Background and Die Cut Foliage

Hi everyone, a bit of a change of style for this card, inspired by one of Tim Holtz’s Christmas tags, and the arrival of the Winter Foliage die cutting set in to stock I thought I would give it a go. I have added a close up shot as I realized that for some reason you can’t see any of the glitter on the main shot.

The base is an A6 Kraft blank card. For the background panel, start with a piece of turquoise Kraft Core card stock and trim it to layer it on the base. Put clear ink all over the recessed side of the embossing folder and run it through the machine, then heat emboss with white embossing powder, rub off random areas of the embossing powder before you heat it to give a distressed look. When the embossing is dry use a sanding block to lightly sand over the raised areas to reveal the Kraft core. Use a paper scruffer around the edge of the panel to rough it up a bit and ink the edges with distress ink.

The sheet music came from an old piano music book that my daughter used for her lessons years ago, inked with distress ink and cut into a banner shape.

Die cut a selection of foliage from different colors of green Kraft Core card, rub them with a sanding block to reveal the Kraft core, it’s easier to do this before you pop them out of the card. Ink randomly with a white ink pad and add glitter glue – spread it around with your finger tip so you don’t get blobs of it. Cut the stems off three paper roses and add ink and glitter glue to them as well. Arrange the foliage and roses over the music banner.

For my first attempt at making the background I used a pearl embossing powder rather than white and didn’t like the result as it didn’t look snowy enough, however, nothing is wasted and it made a great contrasting die cut background piece for the sentiment, which is stamped in white on Kraft card and die cut into a decorative rectangle. Color three small adhesive pearls with a bronze Sharpie and use them to decorate below the stamped greeting and that’s pretty much it!!

I love the way the snowflake background turned out, I will be using a lot more of the Kraft core card, I really like the effect it produces. Thank you for reading, I hope you like it, please leave a comment to let me know what you think.
