Good Afternoon!
Today I want to show you a card that I made using one of our new shaker card plastic domes. We have been selling the Hunkydory plastic domes for several years but I have always thought they were rather large, so I was delighted to find these smaller domes from Impression Obsession in the USA.
I couldn’t wait to get them unpacked when they arrived, in a variety of shapes and with pre-cut overlays I thought they would be perfect. When I took one out of the packet I was disappointed at first to see that they are much shallower than the Hunkydory ones, restricting the size of things that you can put inside them to shake around. Having given it a bit more thought, I think there are plenty of smaller things that you could use inside them, like the little wooden ladybirds in this card, other ideas are table confetti, small sweets, sequins, flat buttons, punched paper shapes etc. so not as limited as I first thought. A big bonus is that you don’t need to make a special envelope or boxerlope and with the latest Royal Mail charges in the UK being calculated on the size of the package including the thickness you will not incur any extra postal costs. Every cloud has a silver lining!

So shaker cards are made easy because the plastic domes are self adhesive, just create your background scene, add your shaky bits, peel the backing off the plastic pouch and stick it over them.
I wanted to make a frame for the plastic pouch and found to my delight that one of the dies from our set of plain circle dies is the perfect size to use with the round plastic dome, I combined the plain die with a larger sized lacy circle die to make a pretty frame for my shaker centre piece. I tied a length of bakers twine around the plastic into a bow, added a die cut butterfly and a peel off greeting.  I am pleased with the final result and I like the way the ladybirds move around sometimes sitting in the grass, sometimes on the flowers.

The other shapes of plastic domes are square, rectangular, and heart shaped, and if you prefer the bigger Hunkydory ones they are available in circles and ovals.
